On the day of her wedding in coastal Andalusia, 19-year-old JoJo Jones flees her controlling fiancé Bruno and steals a car — only to “accidentally” hit Carmen Dolores, a sharp-tongued trans woman with a habit of throwing herself in front of cars for cash.

 

But JoJo has no money, and Carmen has no ride — so the two women form an uneasy alliance and set off across the Andalusian interior. JoJo dreams of reaching an opera audition in Seville, clinging to her late mother’s memory. Carmen seeks to reconnect with the grandmother who once accepted her fully.

 

Their road trip of scams, close calls, and unexpected tenderness deepens into something more — an unlikely romance shadowed by trauma, transphobia, and the looming threat of Bruno’s pursuit.

Cadenza is a sunlit odyssey in which two women learn that escape can become transformation.
