Hello Norma Jeane
In development
A comedy drama series for television.
Lynnie Spackman, an eighty-year-old Essex grandmother whose wild humour masks decades of trauma and resilience, escapes from her bleak care home and turns up at a gay men–only resort in Torremolinos, Spain — a place she once visited decades earlier.
Her gay grandson Joe, who is struggling with his own demons — tracks her down, only to discover Lynnie is not simply running — she is revealing.
Piece by piece, she insists that she is not Lynnie at all but is in fact Marilyn Monroe, who faked her own death in 1962 and has lived hidden in England ever since. The claim seems absurd… until she produces a birth certificate hidden for decades, letters buried in forgotten Spanish hotel rooftops, and long-lost photos linking her past to powerful men who she claims still want her silent.
Joe must navigate a deeply uncomfortable dilemma: protect a vulnerable old woman in cognitive decline, or accept that the truth may be stranger than he ever imagined.
Hello Norma Jeane is based on Dylan Costello's play of the same name that had two runs in London in 2014 and 2016.
